I started playing classical guitar in my teens. Played rock, blues, funk, jazz...on guitar for about 20 years. After a brief burnout period I decided to play bass as this is something I've always wanted to try but I knew it would turn into a major undertaking.
Also, I thought this would be a good way to avoid falling into the musical rut I found myself in before I burned out on guitar (don't get me wrong - I still love guitar).
Recently, I've been playing a lot of blues and classic rock in a couple of different groups.
For a while during my first year as a bass player I felt kind of sneaky about it as I still have a strong identity as a guitar player. After "zenning" it for a few months as a bass player, I found that I was thrilled with my new role as a bass player. I look forward to developing my walking bass lines and fretless bass a bit more. It's a blast. I wish I had done this long ago.
