acoustic/electric bass strings

Anyone ever use electric bass strings on an acoustic-electric bass? A friend of mine once said he did, but never got the chance to ask him how it sounded. Thoughts???

i tried them once....lost a lot of volume acoustically.....sounded okay when plugged up.

I never knew they had

I never knew they had special strings for acoustic bass guitars. Makes sense, I guess, as there are different strings for acoustic guitars vs. electric guitars.

Most of the acoustic bass strings are phosphor bronze, similar to acoustic guitar strings. Thomastik-Infeld makes sets with phosphor bronze winding on a nylon core for a mellower sound. GHS has a bronze copper zinc alloy that is pretty cool:
