Fender aerodyne classic p-bass

hello guys,

I have been looking at this bass for ages now. and i havnt seen one like it before, and i can only find it on this website. does anyone know anything about it? i cant even find out if its a mexi a jap or a usa. according to some information i found, it falls into the deluxe range - but with that price tag i can only assume its not a usa - becsuae that is a fraction of the price i payed for my usa jazz deluxe.

penny for your thoughts so to speak

Well if I haven't

Well if I haven't mis-understood the Fender website then the Aerodyne Classic P-bass is a product of the Fender Custom Shop. That would make it American manufactured (I think). I saw list prices around $999.00 which would seem right for an American made Fender bass.

What website did you find it on and what was the price?

The P and J pickup setup looks cool. That's what I have on my P-Lyte. Very versatile.

I like the Aerodyne Classic Jazz myself. That's 'cause I prefer the smaller jazz neck.

From what I can gather the Aerodyne's are made offshore (I think Japan) the giveaway is the basswood body rather than alder or ash. The get great reviews on harmony central and look like a good value.

You can get the Aerodyne Classc through the on-line retailers for less than a Highway 1!

Did you find that on the Fender site? I could only find the referance to the Custom Shop which I figured was US made. Isn't the price a bit high for an MIJ? Although I'll grant that the MIJ quality is as good as MIA.

I have a mid-eighties MIJ p-bass that is great, no question about their quality.

Lightweight

One of the big selling points for this bass is that it is so light, and you can gig with it for hour after hour without too much pain. When my kid complained about the weight of his last bass, I looked into one of these, but over here they cost a bit and the Cort Curbow sounded just as good and played better, for half the price.

Fat man, fat bass.

Aerodyne Jazz

Found a Aerodyne Jazz on sale at a price that allowed me to get it with D'Addorio (sp?) XL's and a Badass bridge for about $630. My wife paid for most of it as a b-day gift (yes, that is another reason I married this woman).
It is so light(!) and I also like the thinner J neck and its unique sound from the mix of P & J-pickups. Yes, it's a fingerprint magnet and has a few scratches where the pick guard would normally be (part of the reason it was so affordable, I'm sure), but this doesn't bother me.
And I noticed from the side it resembles a perfect pint of Guinness - that's got to be worth something right?

I've played one in stores a time or two. I really like it. It feels very much (in fact, almost identical) like my Fender Jazz Bass Special from the 80s.
