BassIAB II progress

I know there's lots of time and I'm definately not rushing anyone but I'm curious how everyone is doing with BassIAB II?

I've got a bass line recorded. I'm happy with the overall feel but I'm still experimenting with the tone, level and placement. I'm also trying to get an outro that I like. I think a little something on bass would go well with the drum solo but I haven't found anything that works yet. Also, my intro is a little plain so I'm going to play around with a few other ideas there as well.

I tried recording a dry signal as well as an effected signal and mixing the two so I could change the amount of FX during the song. It didn't work though. My articulation isn't accurate enough so the two signals got muddy. : (

Here's a tip. For bass placement in the mix try 10 to 20% right of center. I left room for the bass opposite the brass. Centered will work too but if you want to pan a little that's where i'd suggest.

BTW, I'm assuming we are going to put up our versions as we produce them rather than wait until everyone is finished right? Is everyone Ok with that? I realize as versions are posted we run the risk of being influenced by other lines. I guess you can just not listen if you are worried about it. Comments?

I played with it for about

I played with it for about two day when the beds were posted and have not touched it since. I was asked to do bass lines for a few tunes so I am knocking those out first.

I say post 'em if ya got 'em

I say post 'em if ya got 'em is how I feel. For me personally hearing someone else's line does not affect what I play. It actually prevents me from using any of their ideas even if I tried.

I know the idea is to come up with your own line but you (not you specifically Paul but anyone) could put up what they have and ask for ideas. Sort of like if you were practicing with a band, you give yer idea a shot and then perhaps yer mates would say something along the lines of, "Wow!! Do you really expect us to use that line?! What if you tried this at (insert section of song)? What do ya think" ;^P

Good point Hazz. There's no

Good point Hazz. There's no reason you couldn't post and say 'I'm stuck, what should I do for the bridge'. The whole point is learning.

The only reason I worry is that if I hear a bass line in a tune I have a hard time getting it out of my head so I can do something original. I just wanted to be sure everyone was Ok with it.
