Just a small rant

What is with singers and guitar players? I come up with these cool bass lines and they just want some thing generic. You would think they do not want to compeat with the bass but come on, just bring the guitar and vox out front a bit and drop the bass in the back. I am just ranting 'cause some one said, ":I want a bass line like this . . ." and sent me a link to the song. I listend, laid down a track and told him it did not fit with his tune (almost identical to the line he liked) and he then says "Well, it sounds to busy, may be tone it down a bit." I did and now it is good to go but why do they just not listen in the first place?

The older I get, the less

The older I get, the less I'm willing to work with such people--unless it's a session and they're playing me for my time (which is an entirely different situation. If you're paying me, I'll play whatever you like--and the easier the better. On a session, you don't, after all, get paid by the note. You get paid for being capable and flexible). But outside of that, I think life's too short to play in bands where your creative contributions aren't valued.

I actually knew a metal band that lost their bassist and used some sort of MIDI guitar setup to create bass lines that doubled whatever was played on the E and A strings of the rhythm guitar. I'd say that's win-win: they got the guitar-doubling sound they wanted and no bassist had to suffer through playing it. :)
