New Feature: Bassplaying.com Radio

Amazon.com has a new feature that allows you to create MP3 players for your site. So I threw one together from the bassists we've interviewed as well as a few others I thought you might like. I'm thinking of making a customized one to go along with each existing (and any future) interviews, featuring just the music of that bassist.

Site Upgrade

On 5/22/09, I upgraded to Drupal 5.18 (from 4.7). All went well. You'll notice changes as we continue to integrate the existing site with the new code base and the new theme. I will be rolling out additional improvements in the coming weeks. For now, you'll be happy to know we have a fully functional chat system as well as the Shoutbox (which has made it's glorious return).

BassIAB: Bass in a Box (updated for 2008.1)

The Idea:
Bass-in-a-Box (BassIAB) gives you a chance to demonstrate your creativity while learning about the creative process of other bassists here at Bassplaying.com. The idea is simple:

  • We provide a backing track (mp3) without a bass line and (usually) with a chord chart
  • You load it into your Digital Audio Workstation and record a bass line.
  • You export the entire track to a single mp3 file.
  • You post a link to your file to the forum.

Bassplaying.com Celebrates our First Year!

That's right, kids. Yesterday, June 1, 2007, marks our one year anniversary. In that short amount of time, the site has grown by leaps and bounds, and it continues to grow thanks to all of you who visit and contribute. Thanks for making BP a part of your life.

We're in the process of creating some great t-shirts to celebrate the event. You'll see a front-page post about those when they're available for purchase.

Here's to another great year!

Bassplaying.com MySpace Page

Thanks to BP member BoH for putting together a MySpace page for Bassplaying.com. We will be using the MySpace page to host project files from our upcoming Bass-in-a-Box project (more on that in another post) and to help promote the recording projects of all BP members! So go forth and "friend" us: http://myspace.com/bassplayingcom

P.S.: Thanks also to BP member Hazz for designing a logo for the avatar on the MySpace page and for helping manage it.

Bassplaying.com Online Store (BOS): For the Bassist on your List

If you're buying bass-related books, vids, and CDs this holiday season, you can help out your favorite bass site by purchasing through our Bassplaying.com Online Store, powered by Amazon.com. It's brand new. We're still adding items and getting the colors set up. But it's ready for action. We hope you enjoy it.
